25 Ways To Cheer Yourself Up!

We’ve all had those days where we are down and don’t know where to start in picking ourselves back up again. I often get into those ruts where I just want to sleep my problems away and every time I do just that, it only makes me sadder.

I’m going to assume you’re reading this because you’re also feeling a bit upset or discouraged. Just know you’re not alone and we’ve all been there. Personally, when I’m feeling down, I like to jump into something new and stay busy to distract myself. But somewhere along the way, I like to sit down with my thoughts and really process what it is I’m feeling and why I’m feeling that way.

In recent weeks I noticed myself getting down quite a bit. Each time I would try something new and started writing them down for future me when I need it most. Since I can’t be the only one to feel a little sad sometimes, I might as well share what I find works best for me and hope I can lift someone else’s mood in the process 🙂

Without further adieu, here are 25 ways to perk the F up:

I. WORK OUT
In the wise words of Elle Woods, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.”

II. GO HOBBY SEARCHING
Start biking, hiking, cooking, gardening. Basically, partake in any activity ending in “ing.”

III. BINGE DAY!
Curl up on your couch, put your hair up in a bun, throw on your favorite sweats (not your exes!), break open the heavy buttered popcorn or pint of Ben & Jerry’s and watch the first few episodes of that show that’s been on your Netflix List for months but you never got around to starting.

IV. WAKE & BAKE
For all you plant lovers out there, this one isn’t for you. Or maybe it is, whatever floats your boat. I’m thinking more, wake up, bake some brownies or muffins. When your sad, it’s never too early for dessert.

V. WRITE IT DOWN
Organizing your thoughts and getting them on paper always helps me process my emotions. Plus, it’s an excuse to buy another cute notebook I definitely didn’t need.

VI. CREATE A PLAYLIST
Put together some songs that make you want to bop around and throw up your middle fingers to the world. Or listen to someone else’s if you’re lazy like me. My personal go-to is Big Booty Mix 13.

VII. CLEAN
Nothing feels better than coming home to a clean room/apartment. So get to it and organize!

VIII. REDECORATE
Once you’ve finished cleaning, time to redecorate! No one likes a homewrecker, but everyone loves a redecorator. Freshen up your space with some new pillows, candles, and all things that scream good vibes.

IX. SHOP
Treat yo self! Don’t go overboard, but remember that pair of shoes you put in your cart but didn’t purchase because you couldn’t think of an occasion you’d wear them to? Congrats, this is your occasion.

X. READ A BOOK
Something about The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck just makes me feel better about my life and where it’s going.

XI. PLAN PLAN PLAN
Don’t let your bad day vibes spill into tomorrows vibes. Whip out your planner, your favorite pen, and plan out tomorrow, the rest of this week, or month with lots of activities you know you’ll enjoy.

XII. CUDDLES + SNUGGLES
If you don’t have a pet, this is a two-step plan. First, go out and get a pet. Once you have said pet, cuddle and snuggle until you’re feeling better.

XIII. CRY
A good cry is so underrated. No one likes to cry, but letting out all that built-up emotion feels SO good.

XIV. COMPILE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES
Log into Pinterest, and put together a board of quotes that make you want to get out of bed, and start living your best life again.

XV. SCRAPBOOKS
Find some photos that inspire you, get your scissors and glue, and get to work!

XVI. SIT DOWN, DRANK
Nothing a glass (or bottle) of wine can’t fix. Invite friends over for double the fun.

XVII. COOK A HEALTHY MEAL
You’re just not you when you’re hungry.

XVIII. GET/PLAN A TATTOO
My tattoos remind me of life lessons or stories that I want to take with me wherever I go. Getting a new tattoo is a creative process and outlet. And showing off some new ink always makes me feel like the badass I know I am.

XIX. CHANGE YOUR HAIR/WARDROBE
Embrace the change that’s going on in your life and project that onto your hair and wardrobe. Look good, feel great!

XX. YOGA
Yoga(t this!) #awfulpuns. A more chill approach to calming your mind and lifting your mood.

XXI. MEDITATE
An even chiller approach to calming your mind. There are multiple mediation apps to guide you and narrow down what you want to focus on during your meditation. “The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts. It’s to let them stop controlling you.”

XXII. VENT/RANT
We all have that friend that ALWAYS makes us feel better. Give them a call, and let it out.

XXIII. TAKE NUDES
Body positivity is so important. If your feeling yourself, go for it!
Disclaimer: THIS IS FOR YOU AND YOU ONLY.

XXIV. PLAN YOUR GOALS
Think of three things you want to work on. Write them down. And figure out how you will achieve them.

XXV. FIND YOUR MANTRA
For my fellow Gilmore Girls fans, my current mantra is “We’re almost there and nowhere near it. All that matters is we’re going.”

Hopefully at least a few of these help you feeling motivated and uplifting again. If not, give a few more a try. Never give up on yourself or your happiness.
